IPL LASER
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a popular cosmetic treatment that uses a broad spectrum of light to improve the appearance of various skin concerns. While often referred to as "IPL laser," it's important to know that it is not a laser. Instead of a single, focused wavelength of light like a laser, IPL uses multiple wavelengths, which makes it a versatile tool for treating different skin issues at the same time.

The IPL device emits flashes of light that penetrate the top layer of the skin (epidermis) and are absorbed by specific targets in the deeper layers. These targets, called chromophores, are responsible for the color in certain skin imperfections.

WHAT DOES THE IPL TREAT?
PIGMENT
For pigmented lesions (like sunspots or freckles): The light is absorbed by melanin, the pigment that causes brown spots. The heat from the light breaks down the pigment clusters, which are then either absorbed by the body or flake off in the days following the treatment. This pigment can be caused by sun damage,
VASCULAR
For vascular lesions (like broken capillaries or rosacea): The light is absorbed by hemoglobin in the blood vessels. The heat damages the vessels, causing them to collapse and be reabsorbed by the body, which reduces redness and visible capillaries.
SKIN REJUVENATION
For skin rejuvenation: The heat generated by the light stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, two proteins essential for firm and youthful skin. This helps to improve overall skin texture, reduce fine lines, and give the skin a more rejuvenated appearance.
ACNE
Destroys Acne-Causing Bacteria: The light emitted by the IPL device is absorbed by porphyrins, which are compounds produced by the acne-causing bacteria, P. acnes (now called C. acnes). When the light energy is absorbed, it creates heat that destroys the bacteria within the pores. By eliminating these bacteria, IPL helps to reduce active breakouts and prevent new ones from forming.
IPL BENEFITS:
-
Correcting Skin Pigmentation: IPL is highly effective at reducing the appearance of sun damage, age spots, freckles, and other forms of hyperpigmentation.
-
Reducing Facial Redness: It can significantly diminish redness, flushing, and visible blood vessels caused by conditions like rosacea.
-
Improving Skin Texture: By stimulating collagen production, IPL helps to smooth fine lines and wrinkles and improve overall skin tone and texture.
-
Treating Acne and Scars: IPL can target the bacteria that cause acne and reduce inflammation, while the collagen-boosting effect can also help to minimize the appearance of acne scars.
